Get More Traffic To Your WordPress Blog With These 5 SEO Tips

By Roger Weavers

SEO is pretty much the same for most websites. Whether you have a static site or a blog you still need to focus on the same elements and ranking factors. There are many plug-ins available for WordPress to help you with SEO but you still need to understand the basics to use these plug-ins correctly. Here are my 5 top tips to improve the rankings of your WordPress blog.

1: Use a SEO Plug-in and change your permalinks

There are many on page factors that the search engines use to decide how well your website will rank. The plug-in I recommend for this is WordPress SEO by Yoast. There are other similar SEO plug-ins but I think that Yoast is the most powerful.

Yoast checks 13 different elements of your posts and pages including making sure your keyword appear in the correct places on the page and it also checks the quality of your content. Google assigns a quality score you your content, a high score will help improve your rankings. The higher your quality score the less backlinks you will need to achieve top rankings.

One thing that is very important is to use keywords in your page URLs. By default WordPress will assign numbers to each page, to get your URLs created with your keyword simply go to "settings" > "Permalinks" and select "postname"

2: How to avoid duplicate content.

Some of the inbuilt functions of WordPress can actually cause SEO problems for you. If you use "Tags" and "Categories" this can create duplicate content and affect your rankings. There are many mis-conceptions about duplicate content but my understanding is that when Google detects duplicate content, whether on the same website or different websites it will choose a copy of the content to be the master copy and this will rank in Google's primary index. All other copies will be relegated to the secondary index.

By using many Tags and Categories you may create duplicate content, a tag page with one post on it will be virtually identical to the actual post page and if Google determines that the tag page is the master it may not rank as well as the actual post page. The same thing can happen with category pages. I recommend you do not use tags and if you use category pages make sure that you have at least 2 or 3 posts in each category and provide a detailed description at the top of each category page.

3: Build Trust using Internal Linking.

It is useful to have a good internal linking structure on your blog. Creating "in text links" to other related pages will help search engine index your site and improve you rankings by linking relevant pages together. There is a plug-in that creates these "in text links" but from what I have seen it does not work very well and can cause problems. Therefore I recommend you create "in text" links manually. There is a plug-in that I do use which lists a number of related posts at the end of each post. This seems to work better.

Another type of link you can use in your posts is outbound links to authority websites. Don't do this too often but a few links out to authority sites will give your blog more trust.

4: Gain Backlinks Using "Trackbacks and Pingbacks"

With any website, when optimising for competitive keywords you will need to get some backlinks to improve your rankings. There are many ways to do this and there are some methods built-in to WordPress and other plug-ins available to help you.

WordPress has two built in functions called "Trackbacks and Pingbacks". This enables you to get links from other blogs that have these functions enabled. When you add a link to another blog in your post the other blog owner will receive a trackback, if they approve the trackback a link will appear in the comments section of their post you linked to with a link back to your blog.

5: Gain More Backlinks Using Comments

A useful plug-in to gain more backlinks is CommentLuv. This allows people that also use CommentLuv to leave a comment on your blog with a link back to their latest blog post. To get backlinks to your site you must visit other blogs using CommentLuv and leave a comment. You should also leave comments on blogs that are not using CommentLuv, you won't get a link with keyword rich anchor text but you will still get a link. Make sure you leave a useful comment and you will get readers clicking through to your blog.

There are many more ways to improve the rankings of your blog, some you will find on my blog so click on the link in the bio to visit and find out more.

If you have hung around the internet and gotten a little whiff of the SEO updates, you would have already gathered that if you have your website optimized, you stand the chance of getting better hits and more profits and ranking on the search engines. However, it might seem like something unattainable since you might not have any idea of how you can get the necessary optimization for your blog.

At first, most bloggers are often undecided on the kind of software that would be ideal for their blogging enterprise, but with time, they come to settle on the WordPress option.

However, I am always amazed when I discover that many people who make use of WordPress do not actually know anything about WordPress SEO. They have basically no knowledge of the workings of the SEO tips and training that is imperative for their online success. I do not advise you to ignore that WordPress SEO training as you would be doing yourself more harm than good. Once you make a wonderful combination of SEO and WordPress, you would be amazed yourself at the possibilities that could result from such a combination. Basically, I can tell you of two WordPress programs that would achieve the desired effect for you. I know that there are many people out there who would smile at the prospect of making money, but are decidedly hesitant about spending some investment along the way. For these people the WordPress SEO training would be quite good, since this affords them the opportunity to make money without spending any of theirs.

I am sure you are not disputing if I tell you this: WordPress is the best blogging platform. It has its reasons too; it is easy to install, free of charge and a very good friend of google. Here are some ways you can use in optimizing your blog for better visibility on the search engines.

Step 1: Keyword research. You see, the keywords are the main things that would determine how far you would go in the SEO soup. It is therefore important for you to have a well composed list of your keywords. However here is a little tip for you; the best free tool you can use for your keyword research is the Google keyword research tool.

Step 2: customize your WordPress blog for Google SEO. First of all, of course, you should log on to your dashboard, go to settings and permalinks. Once there, alter the default structure of your blog. Click on the radio button with the "custom" header and insert /%postname%/ in the box.

Step 3: Write content.  Also, do not forget to write regularly. Don't be irregular in your writing, and make sure your articles are quality, since there is nothing a search engine loves more. Best WordPress SEO Tips

By David Ogram

There are quite a few things that you need to do to get best WordPress SEO results and below are some tips:

Don't rush into setting up your site.

It is a mistake to set-up a site and then think about SEO. To achieve best WordPress SEO it is vital to do some research at the beginning to select the right keywords and domain name. You need to build the site around keywords that are not too competitive but have an acceptable volume of searches. One of these keywords should be in the domain name (at the beginning if possible).

If you were to pick very competitive keywords it would require a great deal of work (and in practice may be impossible) to get a high search engine ranking.

Structure the site in a search engine friendly way.

For best WordPress SEO purposes you should ensure that the title of the pages and posts is used in the URL. This is done via the Permalink setting which should be "postname".

You should also create information and legal pages and link to them from the header or footer. These are pages like About Us, Contact Us, Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

If you create a lot of pages make them all accessible in two clicks from the home page. The pages and posts should be interlinked using the keywords as anchor text but you can install a plugin to help with this.

Install some WordPress SEO plugins.

There are numerous SEO plugins available which will help achieve best WordPress SEO but many have similar functions. There are several multifunction "SEO packs" and you should install one of these. "All in One SEO Pack" is very popular but some people now prefer the slightly more advanced "Platinum SEO Pack". You can start with the default settings but it is worthwhile learning what the plugin does.

You should also install a site map plugin to help the search engines to find and index the content.

Other plugins will contribute to best WordPress SEO by, for example:

Tiding up URLs.
Managing Redirections & 404 errors.
Automatic link generation.
Checking for broken links.
No Follow external links.
Control paging of comments.
Checking SEO of content.

If you install any of these you should understand what they are doing.

Don't do anything that will have a negative impact

Be careful not to overuse your keywords and make sure your outbound links are to reputable sites only.

Produce good content.

Content is key to best WordPress SEO. You need unique content written in a way that is search engine friendly but is still highly readable by human visitors. The aim is for the search engines to see your content as relevant to the targeted keyword without it being in any way written for them. A good way to check the SEO of your content is to use the SEOPressor plugin.

SEOPressor gives a percentage score and tells you what you need to do to improve it. It therefore directly helps achieve [http://seo-plugin.net/best-wordpress-seo]Best WordPress SEO. It also acts as a training tool because on page SEO means remembering lots of little things and after you have corrected them a few times they start to become automatic. WordPress SEO Tips - 5 Ways to Optimize Your WordPress Blog

By Jim Woolley

WordPress is an excellent platform to use if you want to run your own blog because it's structure and design enables it to get very good results in the search engines. However it can still be improved further, so here's 5 simple WordPress SEO tips:

1. Create keyword rich post titles.

It's important to note that you don't just want to write posts for your regular readers because you want to attract many new readers as well. So to do this you want to write post titles that contain the keywords relating to the content that you have just written.

2. Create a strong permalink structure.

It's open to debate which permalink structure is the best for SEO purposes, but whichever one you choose you must use one which includes the title of the post within the URL. It's no good creating keyword rich titles if they don't actually show up in the URL for that particular post, so this is an absolute must.

3. Install the All-In-One SEO plugin.

There are a few SEO plugins that all do pretty much the same thing but this is the one I personally use. It basically enables you to create fully optimized blog posts. You can list keywords and tags for each post and you can also arrange the title and meta descriptions for every one of your posts. Plus you can also 'nofollow' certain pages on your blog so overall it's a very useful plugin.

4. Install the Google Sitemaps plugin.

This is another plugin that I recommend using for all your WordPress blogs. It basically allows you to automatically submit your pages to Google whenever you create new posts on your blog. So you therefore know that Google will always be indexing your site.

5. Build lots of backlinks.

Finally you should of course create lots of backlinks to your site. This is arguably the most important point because you need lots of backlinks to compete for the more popular keywords. If you can combine both onpage and offpage SEO techniques then you should have a very popular blog on your hands.

Many commercial website owners wanted their site to be search engine optimized. If successful in this task, their website can surely attract more visitors and this means higher possibilities to gain new customers and to generate higher income or profits. This is the cycle that most online businessmen want to establish; to gain visitors, make sales, get paid, and earn healthy profits. All these can be achieved through following some basic SEO tips.
One of the most basic SEO tips that are popularly used by a lot of website owners is about the use of keywords. They integrate the right keywords to their website's features like domain name, web address, headings and the site's overall content. However, before doing that, they will first make an extensive research regarding the most used keywords connected to their website's products or services. In this way, they will be able to make a list of the most popular keywords that most internet users search for when using search engines. This will help them decide on what appropriate keywords they should incorporate to their site so as to make it more search engine ready.
When you have already incorporated the keywords to the different elements of your site, it is good to try searching for your site using the keywords that you used. Evaluate if your website will appear in the top rank pages of search results. If it did, then you successfully completed this simple SEO tip. If your site did not appear then maybe it is time to also manipulate the other aspects of your website or maybe you can go off page. This means that you may try other strategies beyond what you can control in your own webpage.
Another popular SEO tip is by constructing links to other websites that will direct more customers to your site when clicked. An effective strategy that is used is what they call exchange links. From the name itself, you can already understand what this strategy means. All you have to do is to ask permission from other website owners to let you post a link in their site and in return you must also allow them to create their link to your own website. This is a very cost-effective strategy for you don't need to pay the website owner to let you have the privilege to use their site. You just have to offer them with the same privilege.
Websites that are targeting customers that are near their vicinity can also use some local SEO tips. This is to make their site more visible to the internet users who are looking for websites that can provide them with the services they need and at the same time is within their locality. The strategy that can be used is to incorporate their address or the name of the area where their shop is located to the name of their web pages, headings and contents.

3 Top SEO Tips - A Must For High Ranking

By DeAnna D Dubois

If you are running a website it is an absolute necessity to implement search engine optimization if you want people searching the Internet to find it.
SEO can be classed as the fine art of creating a website that is relevant and important to search engines, so that it will rank highly on the search engine index, and gain unlimited targeted traffic.
When optimizing a web page there are two key elements that have to be considered:
1. Keywords for relevance and
2. Links for importance
Here are the top 3 SEO Tips you should implement in order to achieve success and high profile ranking.
Tip #1
Use of Keywords
Choosing what keywords to use is the first action you have to take in your SEO formulation.
You will choose from the keywords people are putting into their browsers when searching the internet for information.
Keyword And Domain Name
The first place to use keyword/s is in your domain name. When deciding on what name to give your website you should first of all research the keywords for the chosen niche and try to use keywords in the domain name. For example, the key word 'weight loss diet' is searched for quite often in the weight loss niche. Therefore is makes sense to create a domain name such as 'weightlossdiet.com'
Another tactic you could use that will further enhance your domain name is to use hyphens. This allows you to type the domain exactly as the keyword is put into the search engine.
Single Keyword versus Keyword phrases
I usually recommend targeting phrases rather than single keywords. For most businesses there's simply too much competition for single keywords, and you could end up spending $2-$10 a keyword if you are using PPC (pay per click).
Plural versus singular keywords
For example, should you use 'tennis shoe' or 'tennis shoes'?
In order to answer this question, you need to find out what your target visitors are actually searching for. It is highly likely that they will be searching for 'tennis shoes', after all who only wants to purchase a single 'tennis shoe?'
In reality there is no reason why you cannot target both and still enjoy a high ranking.
Tip #2
What's In A Domain Name?
OK you've chosen the niche and keyword/s phrases you intend to use to market your website, so the next step is to purchase a domain name for your website. When you buy your domain name you must include keyword/s or phrases within the domain.
Including keyword/s and phrases in your domain name is also useful because it will help to brand your business, give people a way to remember your company, attract sponsors, get link partners and advertisers queuing up to place ads.
Tips #3
Create A Keyword Rich Title
After purchasing a domain name you will proceed to create your webpage for promote your product or service. The most important element of the webpage is the title. You have to create a keyword enriched title that is suitable for search engine optimization.
However, advertising using terms with a catchy title or catch phrase may not be as effective for Internet marketing as it is for newspapers and magazines.
A good SEO Title should not only include keyword/s but should also be written for the benefit of the search engine robots that spider the Internet. For example, say you use the keywords 'The world's loveliest music' may not be as appropriate as 'Love music for lovers' as the search terms 'love music' or 'love music for lovers' will be searched for much more than 'world' or 'loveliest'.

Top 5 Killer Seo Tips For Beginners

By Daisy Graham Jones

SEO is a very difficult to learn and never ending topic for blogger, the more you learn the better you get. In my past 6 months of blogging career believe me every day I learn new SEO tips from one or another blog sites. But what if you have just started, you cannot be very technical in the early stages. So you need to first begin with the ABC of it. And here I am going to teach it to you. Some basic SEO tips that every beginner should learn right away.
1) Catchy Post Titles
This is a very easy to learn SEO tip, make sure whenever you write a new post make the title of the post very catchy and attractive. People would never like to see a post which has a very dull and boring title. Let's take this post as an Example - A Good Title "Top 5 Killer SEO Tips For Beginners" and the boring one "Some SEO Tips." Include some catchy headlining words in the post title. In this case "Top 5 Killer." Whenever you search for anything on Google you get thousands of results, but do you really visit all of them. No, you only visit the one which you think would give the perfect information and would seem to you very catchy.
2) Use Social Media
The main secret for SEO for beginners lies in Social Media. It's not a very complex task and anyone can do this. Use social media, each and every one on which you can get your hands on. Use Facebook, twitter and especially Google+. With the increase in the population on Social Sites than on the streets, target the audience with your brand name where you find more people. It can bring huge traffic to your site and consequently increase your rankings on Search Engines.
3) Linking Pages
The biggest example you can see yourself is if you read Wikipedia. Have you seen how they interlink each and every post on their site within the related posts? That's why their site has such a less bounce rate, i.e. no. of visitors that include just one page view. So, connect your posts within one another and see the results yourself. This tip will keep your audience for more time on your site and will keep the flow on. Include a popular post widget below each and every post of your site or in the sidebar so that people can see it clearly. This will help a lot.
4) Use SiteMaps
Using sitemap can help a lot as it just gives the search engines a map so that they can easily navigate and index each and every page of your site. There are many popular plugins available for WordPress Platform which can help you do this task easily. One of my favorite and the one which I am using right now is SiteMap XML. So go ahead and create a sitemap for site and submit it to Google though the Webmasters Tools Page.
5) Write Guest Posts
This can help you both in getting traffic to your site as well as building some backlinks. The main reason of doing so is since you have just started out; therefor the chances are you might not get a lot of views. So if you write Guest Posts for some big sites you will surely get a backlink through that post and the second is that people might visit your own site from the guest post if they like it. I write occasionally for many blogs and believe me just a single post over there brings considerable amount of traffic to my site.
So these were some basic SEO tips that can help you shoot out your online business if you have just started out.

#34: Search engines prefer fresh content over static. Fresh content can come from articles, blogs, site interaction & social media
#35: Human factors matter. SEO friendly efforts must also be human-friendly. Once you gain clicks, you still need to make the sale.
#36: Site ranking cannot be punished for bad inbound links. However it can be punished for linking to bad sites, such as link farms.
#37: Implement search-friendly URLs. Many shopping carts and CMS' use dynamic links that interfere with search engine indexing.
#38: Every web page should include a keyword-based headline tag [h1]. Maintain font size with style tags.
#39: Your [h1] tag should integrate the focus keywords used in your [TITLE] and [META] descriptions. Stick to a tight keyword theme.
#40: Google AdWords states that a "www" before your domain name increases clicks. Carry this through to SEO with canonicalization.
#41: Consider "article swapping" as a means for building inbound links. This technique not only builds links, but boosts content.
#42: You can optimize for more than websites. Depending on your business model, SEO can apply to video, audio, images and articles.
#43: Be patient with SEO. It may take weeks for SEO changes to take effect. Make sure prior changes take root before changing again.
#44: While Google pagerank does not directly impact your keyword ranking, it influences how often and how deep your site is indexed.
#45: Search engine spiders may see "http://WWW.domain.com" and "domain.com" as 2 separate websites, therefore cutting link-juice in half.
#46: If one page has 2 links pointing to the same location, Google only considers the text and attributes of the first link.
#47: If you sell physical products, publish them in Google Products. Implement descriptive keyword phrases in your XML posts.
#48: If you sell products, create merchant accounts with Yahoo Shopping, Amazon, eBay, etc. Let those resources work for you.

SEO Tips and Tricks That Will Drive Your Site to the Top

By Tom Greaves

Do you spend your time looking for SEO tips online? How do you know which SEO tips to trust? The truth is SEO changes so fast that yesterday's SEO tips are old news by today. To be a competent search engine optimizer you must be one step ahead of the game. Always looking for optimization tips that enhance your sites effectiveness.
There are however some SEO tips that will never change and will always be relevant to your SEO efforts. These free tips will take time but will act as an awesome investment in your business. The SEO tips I am going to share with you today are based on linking strategy.
You see a lot of search engine optimizers or site owners that are new to the industry concentrate all their efforts on building inbound links to their home pages. This is not correct and will dilute your link building effectiveness.
Before I go into how you should build links and where those links should be pointing, I want to make myself clear about what an effective link is. An effective link should come from a relevant page, a page that is based on a subject of a page you are linking to. The more relevant the better. The link must also come from a page with a high Page Rank, this may be difficult at first but will improve as your site builds credibility. Finally a link should also be anchored with your targeted keyword, this will increase your keyword authority.
So where should these links be pointing. Well you should create a page based on one or two targeted keywords. Then you should attempt to create quality links to each page you create. So if you had 50 keywords you wanted to target you would have to create 25 - 30 pages with links going back to all of them. This is what is known as deep linking and will vastly improve your search marketing campaign.
These SEO tips are tips that will never change and tips that if done right will leave you ahead of most competition. The main one to remember is relevance. The more relevant your link the more productive it will be.
As I said at the start of the article, most SEO tips will change and modify as time goes on but relevant, high quality, anchored links deep linking back to your site is something that will not be changing anytime soon.

Ten SEO Tips to Get You Higher Yahoo and Google Listings

By

SEO tips can help you to get higher Yahoo or Google listings, but only if you use them. Most people think that they know better, even so called SEO professionals who have to use PPC advertising to get their websites listed highly enough to be seen. Who are they to tell us what to do, when they cannot it themselves?

I have had some of them write to me criticizing my 'crap' HTML and also my 'useless' linking strategies. My site has 'only a Page Rank of 3'. So what? It is sitting at between #1 on #5 on Google from day to day, at # 1 to #4 on Yahoo from day to day and at #1 on MSN. I will gladly accept their criticism of my HTML and linking when they achieve the same. Till then, perhaps they would be better buying my book that complaining about my websites!

I would feel more predisposed to them if they stopped criticizing me - I only started to do the same to them when I got sick of their comments when they could not emulate my results. Who am I, a rank amateur, to beat them in the SEO stakes!! In fact, I have been at this for many years.

So, SEO tip #1 - don't believe anything you are told unless those telling you it have at least one of their websites in the top 5 on all the major search engines for a competitive keyword. Mine has >800 million other results on Google.

Tip 2 - use classical search engine optimization. Use Meta tags because some search engines still use them. The main one is the Description Meta tag - Keywords is not so important but use it anyway. It does not hurt you, so use them.

The third tip relates to the title of your website. There are two points that relate to this. The first is that it should be the best keyword that you can find that relates to your niche or website. That means a good demand and low supply, though too much is sometimes written about this since such keywords are not easy to find. If you can't something with low supply, just use what you want and decide to compete against them. Somebody has to be top, and why can't it be you? Too many people give up in SEO too quickly. Probably because we are told not to compete against the big boys - by these big boys!!

The second point is that the title of your site need not be stated on every web page. My web page titles are those of the page, not the site. The graphics are the same, but the title is the keyword that they page is optimized for. Why do otherwise? Yet 99.99% do (just a guess!). Then fourth of my SEO tips is related to the headings on each page. The main title of the page should be in H1 tags, and the heading in H2 tags. You don't need any more, but any subheadings can go into H3 tags, but should contain text that could be construed as minor keywords.

I might be wrong, but who says? I have found that if you ignore the big guys, and compete against them, they can be beat. Check out what they are trying to sell you and you will notice that much of it is obsolete. Such as site generation and article generation software. That's not an SEO tip, just a word to the wise, from the not so wise. I have no pretensions, but I know where my home page is on Google - and Yahoo - and MSN. Just search for 'article services'.

The fifth SEO tip is to use your keywords sparingly. Most people still think that 1% - 3% keyword density is ideal, yet it is actually too much. There is an optimum keyword density that has little to do with the keyword itself, but more to do with contextual relevance of the page content to the topic in hand. Which leads to the sixth of the SEO tips: write naturally and honestly. If you know about your subject, write about it in your own language and don't try to meet any perceived need for a specific number of so-called keywords within your page content.

Seventh, don't forget about your links. You can get a higher search engine listing if you have lots of links back to your website from other sites. In fact, the links are from page to page, and you get a proportion of the Google PageRank of the page linking to you, relative to the number of other links leaving that page, and also give the page that you link to a proportion of your PageRank, calculated in the same way. The problem with reciprocal links is that most pages are linked to and from pages with a PageRank of zero, even though the website home page can have a PR of 6 or 7.

SEO tip eight. Use your internal linking to maximise the PageRank of a selected page on your website. You don't need every page on your site listed in the top 10 of Google or Yahoo: you only need one. So maximise your efforts on that one page. Visitors that page will then visit the rest of the pages on your website, and so will search engine spiders, so you know that every page on your site will be listed and with a chance of being found in a search.

The important point of that tip is to concentrate on getting one page in the top 10. That's all you need. You will have links to all your other pages once somebody reaches that page in the top 10. Tip nine: Once you get visitors keep them there. Give them useful content and something to do, even if just to click from page to page. Offer them a free gift for completing a quiz on your topic, or free vacation certificates for certain actions: these are easily found on the internet in a form that you can either post or email for them to print their own. Offer them an opt-in form so that you can keep in touch.

That is the most important tip of all - if you can keep in touch with your visitors after they have left your site, then you can offer them new products as they come along without having to seduce them to visit your website again.

Finally, the SEO tip number 10. Enjoy what you are doing, and don't look upon it so much as a job as something to enjoy, and to do as best as you can. I wish you the best of success since it is very sweet when it comes - as it will come with you.

What Is SEO? Search Engine Optimization

By Chandani Gamage
When you use Google (or any other search engine) to search for a term, have you ever wondered how the websites in the first search results page got there, when there are probably thousands of other competing websites which match your search term? Well, the answer to that question is Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Those first few websites had better SEO than their competitors. So, what is SEO? Simply, it is a marketing strategy used to increase the ranking of a website in search engines.
Some of those websites (such as Wikipedia, Facebook and Microsoft) got to the first search results page without much help from SEO because, their brand names are sufficiently famous to get them listed in the first page. The other websites rely on SEO to get them to the first or second search results page. You may wonder why SEO is so important. Well, users rarely go beyond the first few search result pages when searching for a term. When was the last time you clicked on the fifteenth search results page?
SEO can be done in many ways. The main (and effective) SEO methods are the following:
1) SEO titles, headers and URL addresses
2) Back-linking
3) Writing SEO content
4) The use of multimedia
5) Regular updates
This article will briefly touch on each of these SEO techniques. Each of these techniques will be described in detail in subsequent articles.
SEO titles, headers and URL addresses
The title of a webpage is different from its heading. The title is displayed on the 'tab' of that webpage while the heading is displayed in the webpage itself. When you enter a search term (known as the keyword), the search engine tries to find websites whose title, heading and URL address matches the given keyword. If the title, heading or the URL address of a website matches your keyword, then that website is given a higher ranking than others. For example, if the keyword you entered is "phoenix", a website having the URL address: "http://www.phoenix.com" is given a higher ranking than a website having the URL address: "http://www.mystical_birds.com".
Back-linking
When you visit a website, you will usually see several hyperlinks linking that website to other websites. These links are known as back-links. Wikipedia is a good example for back-links. All the reference websites are listed at the bottom of a Wikipedia article. These hyperlinks (at the bottom of an article) are back-links of the respective reference websites. Back-links help to increase the ranking of a website. Generally, the more back-links a website has, the higher its ranking.
Writing SEO content
Search engines try to match the entered keyword with the content of websites. For example, if your keyword is "golf player", the search engine will search for articles having the term "golf player". However, there will be millions of articles having the term "golf player" in them. The search engine will rank these articles according to the "keyword density" of the articles. Keyword density is calculated by dividing the number of keywords in the article by the total number of words and then multiplying the result by 100.
For example, if a hundred-worded article has the keyword "golf player" repeated twice in it, the article has a keyword density of 2%. Articles having a keyword density of 0.5-2% are generally given the highest ranking.
The use of multimedia
Everybody prefers graphical websites, compared to plain-text websites. The major search engines know this and therefore; they give websites containing multimedia (graphics, videos and flash applications) a higher ranking than other websites.
Regular updates
People have an unquenchable thirst for new information and facts. The major search engines address this need by giving the websites which are regularly updated a higher ranking than other websites.
